Meet Your Treatment Team
Jack Petti – Owner/Founder
Jack Petti comes from a unique background, having struggled with addiction from the very early age of twelve years old. He uses his story to help individuals struggling with the same problems he once struggled with. In charge of various and multiple roles at Renaissance Recovery, Jack works with our clients, helping provide and establish a solid foundation for recovery, with hopes of supporting them in developing a better manner of living.
Dr. Rick McGuckin Psy.D., LMFT – Clinical Director
Dr. Rick McGuckin holds a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D) and is a Board Certified Marriage and Family Therapist who has been in private practice since 1985. For the past 32 years, Dr. McGuckin has successfully counseled adults and adolescents and has helped them put their lives back in balance. Dr. McGuckin has specialized in working with men and women who struggle with alcoholism and substance addiction, as well as depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. His desire to work with individuals in treatment facilities for substance abuse comes from firsthand experience of how and when the disease started, as well as the toll the disease can have on a family. Often people with an addiction have a secondary diagnosis, such as depression, anxiety, or bi-polar disorder, for example. In these cases, Dr. Rick works closely with Psychiatry to stabilize the client’s mood and clear their thinking. As Clinical Director of Renaissance Recovery, Dr. McGuckin carries the message that it is through identification, support and education that individuals are able to turn their lives around and begin a new path in their journey through life.
Robert Leigh – Admissions Director
As Director of Admissions it is Robert’s mission is to ensure that all client’s and families have a seamless transition as they take this step forward in their sobriety and their lives. Robert takes on the task of assessing all clients to assure that they are a good clinical fit for our program and coordinate all aspects of their admission. In addition, Rob manages professional relationships associated with Renaissance Recovery, ensuring that Renaissance maintains a healthy rolodex of relationships with partnering programs in the event a client is not a clinical fit or must be referred to an alternative level of care.
James Blumenschein – Program Director
James graduated from InterCoast College in West Covina, CA. He began his career as an addictions counselor in 2010 and is currently a CADC II, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and a member of California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP). James has acquired an extensive history of working in recovery. Varying from detox and residential treatment facilities to intensive outpatient programs, he holds experience in various roles such as Lead Case Manager, Group Facilitator, and Supervisor. James began his personal journey in recovery in 2009 and has been an active member of the 12-step community. He volunteers his time in helping others afflicted with the disease of addiction through service in 12-step programs. As Program Director of Renaissance Recovery, James is passionate about providing quality counseling and care to his clients. He brings to Renaissance quality leadership and endless inspiration to his team to provide the highest quality client-centered care.
Kevin Cataldi – Creative Director
Kevin graduated from Berklee School of Music with a Master of Music Production in 2012. As Creative Director, Kevin uses his love of the arts to help our clients discover their passions and talents in new and creative ways. He brings to Renaissance Recovery an understanding of the struggles and uncertainties that many individuals face in early sobriety. For over a decade, Kevin found himself alone attempting to battle addiction before finally becoming willing to accept help. Through building a life for himself in sobriety, he has explored ways to use his musical talent and creative background to help others. Kevin hopes to instill a sense of optimism and confidence as he works alongside our clients as they discover their true authentic selves.
Brian Carrington CATC III – Case Manager
Mr. Carrington brings 11 years of personal recovery, and 10 years of experience in the field, with an emphasis on personal accountability, and continued action, in one’s recovery. Brian has worked in the field with criminal offenders, mentally ill, young adults, and those in the professional world that suffer from addiction. Brian brings passion, and compassion to each and every client in an effort to get them back on their feet and functioning in society.
Kathleen Whipple – Therapist
Katy obtained her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Vanguard University of Southern California. Katy is accredited as a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee and is currently obtaining her Master of Science in Clinical Psychology at Vanguard. She has worked in both residential and outpatient settings for mental health and substance abuse, and understands the firsthand struggles that come with early recovery. In her personality and counseling, Katy offers a warm, safe environment, through which her clients can truly be seen and heard. She seeks to demonstrate that people can be sources of strength and joy, rather than the causes of struggle and pain. Katy journeys alongside her clients as they walk together through the difficulties that may arise in transitions. She is dedicated to helping her clients gain the confidence it takes to make healthy, conscious choices on their own. In her free time, Katy enjoys hiking, spending quality time with friends, and taking trips to the dog beach with her two dogs Karma and Keller. Her dogs can be spotted in the office from time to time, exhibiting the sense of comfort and unconditional love that Renaissance Recovery encompasses.
Shane Thompson – Case Manager CADC-I
Shane Thompson moved to Southern California from Southwest Virginia in 2015. He studied Organizational Structures and Processes at Middle Tennessee State University before getting his AOD Counseling Certification from New Creation College in Costa Mesa, California. Shane found a home in Orange County because his path led him to helping people who are struggling but want to change their lives. He brings his spiritual practice to his counseling approach, encouraging meditation and awareness to help men & women stay sober. In his free time, he’s an avid rock collector and lover of National Parks. His favorite quote is from his Zen teach who says, “Don’t do anything unless you have to. And, if you don’t know what to do…. don’t do anything.”
Jamie Courtney – Alumni Coordinator
Jamie is a Registered Recovery Worker, and has obtained her RADT-1 with the state of California. She has been working in the field of recovery for the past three years. As Alumni Coordinator of Renaissance Recovery, Jamie reaches out to our Alumni on a weekly basis, keeping an open line of communication between Renaissance and our clients that graduate. She coordinates Alumni activities, showing continued support throughout the process of our Alumni’s recovery. Jamie’s warmth and compassion are exhibited in all that she does at Renaissance Recovery, her positive outlook bringing a sense of hope and encouragement to the clients as they continuously move forward in their own recovery.
Reese Morgan – Client Advocacy
Reese has been working in the field of addiction for the past several years. As part of the Renaissance Recovery team, Reese brings his passion for helping others to the forefront. From his own experience with overcoming addiction and the wreckage it can cause, Reese connects with our clients on a personal and resonating level. Through experiencing as well how some treatment facilities can make a client feel more like a number than an individual, Reese strives to make sure each of our clients’ individual needs are met. As Client Advocate of Renaissance Recovery, Reese adds an intrinsic value to the attention and care our clients receive, ensuring each of our clients receive the highest quality of care possible.
Bianca Jones – Administrative Director
As the Administrative Director, Bianca brings with her three years of experience in the recovery field with various positions of management and supervision. Her personal experiences have permitted her to gain a deep insight into addiction, and she is passionate about serving those in need of recovery. Bianca is eager to work with our clients and share her experience, strength and hope so that they find success with long-term sobriety.
Seth Bitzer – Director of Operations & Compliance
Seth moved to Southern California from a small town in Delaware in search of a new life. He fell in love with the recovery community that Orange County offers and decided to pursue a career helping others who had similar struggles. He studied both business and nursing, and now brings his passion for helping others to his role with Renaissance Recovery. Seth often assists the clinical staff to provide the best possible client care. Seth takes his own experience in recovery and his working knowledge of the 12 steps and shares it with every client that steps into our family. Seth has an uncanny ability to lead with humble acts of service and serves as an incredible example for what recovery in a young adult looks like.
Stefanie Tate – Case manager-BS, RADT
I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from California Lutheran University. I have been working in the recovery and mental health industry since 2010 and hold my Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician certification. Currently I am in school finishing my CADAC degree. My day to day responsibilities as case manager include crisis intervention, group and individual counseling and client education. I come from a place of professional and personal recovery experience. I pride myself on understanding where the client is coming from. I am passionate about helping men and women understand the disease of addiction and develop effective coping skills to prevent relapse, recover and heal. I believe that an essential part of recovery is seeking out the right support system and trusting the process. A happy and sober future is awaiting you. As a mother of a young daughter I have a busy life. I enjoy skiing, hiking, camping, and many other adventures. I love to travel and enjoy new experiences. I see everyday as another opportunity to learn and grow.
